Founded in 2000

History

2000: Lila Craft is founded by Petra Lienau (called Lina), a German textile designer with business experiences for many years in India. Her main goal: to establish an own clothing collection by using natural materials only
From 2000 on: Exports to Germany and France
2004: CONTIGO meets Lila Craft for the first time, constant cooperation
2005: Lila Craft runs an own workshop for stitching and sewing with 8 employees, workshop is specialised in machine stitching and patch work
2009: Workshop moves to Shahpur Jat, New-Delhi, centrally located with better infrastructure, close collaboration with textile producers in Noida and weaving companies in Amritsar, Himachal, Punjab, Badarpur
2014: Re-organisation of work: sampling, quality control, shipping at central office. Sewing takes place at different external workshops in the outskirts
2016: Reduction of the workshop, more business cooperations with different textile companies for scarf ranges and clothing
2017: New Fairtrade customers from U.K. can be acquired, production focus on clothing and woollen blankets
2019: Rebranding to Atelier Lila, main focus of work: Preparation of textile collections, design, coordination of orders for export, no more own production site

Structure of the business

Office in Shahpur Jat:

The registered office of Atelier Lila is located in France since 2019. The German-French couple Lina Lienau and Serge Peverelli closed their sewing workshop and the export office in New Delhi. The former workshop in Shahpur Jat now serves for the coordination of the work processes in India. Marketing and sales of the self-designed textile ranges are carried out by Atelier Lila in France.

Textile designer Lina Lienau now arranges the annual collections for CONTIGO, coordinates production with associated workshops and collects the finished orders. She regularly spends several months on site for this purpose.

- Neeli – long-time employee, quality control and management assistant: she is no longer in active employment, but temporarily takes on work tasks, she receives a monthly basic salary all year round and bonuses according to the amount of work she does
- Ali (called Masterjee), master tailor, sample maker for clothing collections, formerly employed on a permanent basis, he is now only hired to design new textile models

Atelier Lila builds a perfect bridge between the European customers on the one hand and the Indian manufacturers on the other hand.

Atelier Lila´s strengths: long-time experiences with textile techniques in India, excellent knowledge of materials, respectful cooperation with their manufacturing workshops, demands and trends from the customers in oversea.

Why does CONTIGO work with Atelier Lila: a long-lasting partnership marked by trust and excellent cooperation has developed over the years. The owners are closely connected with India, speak Hindi and have had knowledge of the culture and social structures for decades. Without their cooperation, it would not be possible for CONTIGO to work with the various stages of production.

In the past CONTIGO has appreciated Lila Craft´s social commitment to their employees. With start-up financing and consulting assistance they have enabled their former employees to find a new existence after the restructuring process in 2016.
